Meet your tutor Gillian
Hey there! My name is Gillian McCoy, and to date (2024) I have 16 years of teaching experience. I teach in primary and secondary schools as well as private lessons.
I have worked in the music industry, and also perform my songs and covers both solo and with a band. Above all, I enjoy teaching as it never gets boring - it's great to motivate people and watch them become amazing musicians.
I play guitar and sing vocals in my band, WolfNote. I have a track record of award-winning songs, which is important to me as creativity is at the heart of music. I have built an audience on YouTube by creating arrangements of various rock and pop songs you wouldn’t expect you could play on a mountain dulcimer.
I have also got DipLCM in Pianoforte teaching and popular music vocals, Grade 8 in piano, and popular music vocals, and Grade 6 in guitar. I got my PGCert in music teaching (Merit) at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in 2022.
I am always developing my CPD skills; in 2023 I completed a summer course at Guildhall, London.

The book is designed for teachers and students alike. We'd suggest that beginner students should work through them in conjunction with a teacher.
